The Oscars

With Hollywood being just a few metro stops away from my flat, I decided to go have a look at the site of the Oscars. Had been a long time since I saw Leonardo and Jude (law), catch-up time! I sometimes go to Hollywood to do some window-shopping, although I prefer Beverly Hills. Hollywood is way too touristic. Its full of shops selling junk souvenirs, the Walk of Fame needs a decent cleaning, and most of the people that walk around on the street look everything but sane. I’d almost say its a scary place! The nearest metro stops to Kodak Theatre were closed so I had to get off early and walk to then find you could not get any closer than 2 blocks from the red carpet. So I just walked around a bit, went as close to the barricade as allowed, which was still quite far to see anything exciting of the whole event. A short talk with 2 guys from the bomb team reassured me everything out there was safe. They’d just spent 4 days non-stop searching every inch of Kodak Theatre for possible terrorist materials. Safety above all; dont want to see those ‘Hollywood Stars’ literally high upon the sky. The 2 I must say very talkative officers told me all about the interior of Kodak Theatre, how much effort been done to make it once again stunning. No way they would let anybody get closer, but at the end of our friendly talk they did advise me to go back and then left to Sunset, through a dirty little alley (that scared the shit out of me!) promising the best view at the red carpet for someone who’s name does not appear weekly in the gossip section. As it was already 4.55pm, with the start of the show planned at 5pm, I guess I was a little late to see one of my favorite actors. But then another limo pulled up, got inspected by my bomb squad friends, and then parked 50 meter further right in front of the red carpet. I climbed on top of a wall and saw the lady getting out of the car: she was wearing a dark brown dress, but no clue who she was. As she did not wave back at me out there in that risky position up on the 2 meter high narrow wall, I hope she did not receive an Oscar, that is if she did get nominated in the first place. I think next year I will just stay home and watch the whole circus on television. Unless Jude does change his mind and invites me along with him, I’d consider it another go...
