Last week, Shu died. Just 10 day before I would visit her again! Hope it wasnt because of that...
I had to leave her in Pasadena when I came back to Europe. I considered taking her home with me, but I didnt want to kill her trying to pull her through the long journey. Now she died, of old age I am sure. Martina told me she found her in her wooden house, paralyzed on one side of her body. She got worse the next days and eventually died one night. Shu didnt have good eye-sight. She would often fall down the ladders in her cage, or off the sofa when she was sititng with us there. Perhaps one of her falls eventually became fatal to her, we will never know.
Martina planned to bury her in the garden, where her 11 gerbils are buried too, but as she forgot to do so, Olive threw Shu’s body in the bin after a week. I guess leaving a giant dead hamster for a week in a flat in LA during mid-summer does not exactly give you the prettiest sight. May she rest in peace, whether it is in the plastic, glass or cardboard disposal, I’m sure her soul went straight to hamster heaven. She was a lovely pet.
