Cirque Du Soleil

For my final weekend in the US I had to do something special. I’d been talking to Weiwei about taking a trip to the Grand Canyon, and, as its more or less the same direction, we decided to include Las Vegas in our little road trip. Friday the 13th was my last day in the lab, so I gave a seminar for the Sternberg group. Stressed as I was, it thankfully went relatively ok. I felt kinda bad leaving right after the talk, I wanted to say goodbye to the people, but we really had to get going. We rented a car in the morning and Weiwei packed up our stuff so we were all set to go right after my talk. We left LA at about 4pm on fridayafternoon, making it likely we’d hit traffic. Apart from the full hour it took us to get out of LA, we did not have much trouble and managed to continue our road all the way into Las Vegas quite smoothly. Weiwei did the driving part, and she did a great job as we arrived around 8.30pm already. We really wanted to see a Cirque Du Soleil show on our night out in the city, but we did not want to buy expensive tickets and then be stuck on the road all evening and night. Actually, I initially preferred to see the real Chippendales at work. They are based in Las Vegas and you have to be real lucky to catch them when they are touring the world. Yes they are strippers, but going to their performance as a 25 year old single girl I think there is nothing wrong with that. Besides, what can they show me I have not seen yet?? (during my medical training mum!!!). But I dont think Weiwei was too keen on paying big money just to see a bunch of dudes taking off their pants (Weiwei, its more than that girl!!). But Cirque Du Soleil is known to give amazing shows, wonderful alternative. So having arrived at the hotel, I decided to just call and beg for 2 more tickets, no matter which of the 4 shows running we’d end up seeing. And we were lucky again; I found few tickets left for ‘Zumanity’ at 10pm that same night. The box office guy on the phone probably never met such an excited customer before and even upgraded our 2 tickets to front row seats on the left balcony!!! So off we went to grab some seafood and then hurry to NewYork NewYork hotel. Zumanity is for adults only, reason being its an erotic Cirque Du Soleil show. The girls dance topless, the comedy part of the show is all about ‘enlarged exclusive male or female body parts’ and they also have some gay acts. Seeing those acrobats flying through the air on nothing else but what looks like a thin curtain draped around one arm or one foot, we totally freaked out with the thought of something going wrong up there any minute, having to face those poor lads crashing down on the stage in front of us! I saw Weiwei covering her eyes with her hands, whilst I myself held on tight to my chair. Unbelievable show!! After the luck with the 2 last minute entrance tickets (who ever invented friday the 13th is a day of bad luck??!), I got presented an even bigger surprise: somewhere towards the end of the show there was a guest appearance of: The Chippendales!!!!!! Even though they only did a half monty, that fridaynight the 13th of april I was the luckiest girl in Las Vegas. Money dont buy me love..., though Chippendales I did get!!!!
